What happened last week?

» The unified district cabinet held its first weekly transition meetings to carry on the merger work that began with the Transition Steering Committee. The cabinet is examining proposals for a new compensation structure for employees of the unified district, as well matters related to student transportation and custodial services.

*Please note that a recommendation regarding student transportation is scheduled for presentation to the Shelby County Board of Education during a Special Called Board Meeting on Thursday, April 25.

» The first two central office staffing information sessions were held last week, and two additional meetings will be held this week (see section below for dates and times).

*Please note that staff is working to address all questions and concerns about staffing and numerous other merger-related topics as quickly as possible. Due to the large volume of questions, it is becoming more difficult to respond to all emails individually. FAQ lists are being created for general merger inquiries, as well as those related specifically to the various staffing processes. To make sure questions are included on the appropriate FAQ lists, please note the following submission guidelines:

Questions from principals should be directed to the “Question Hub” on the Principal Portal. A new portal specifically for central office staffing questions will be created by next week. In the meantime, these and other merger-related questions should be directed to the contact page on the TSC website.

What’s Coming Up this Week?

» The first set of central office positions posted TODAY, April 15. This includes positions that report directly to cabinet members (largely executive directors and directors) and cabinet members’ executive assistants. This round of postings also includes a select number of additional positions in the Information Technology Office.

*Please note the postings will be open for one week. They will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. You must submit your application before this deadline to be considered for the central office positions posted during this application period.

» As a reminder, all applications for the unified district will be submitted through the internal Shelby County Schools job posting system (SearchSoft). If you are a current SCS employee, you will need to create a new internal application in order to apply for jobs posted at this time. All positions posted are classified positions. » Any central office employee with questions that have not been addressed in the FAQs sent out by Superintendent Hopson is encouraged to attend one of the two central office staffing information sessions scheduled this week:

» Educators in both districts are still encouraged to share feedback on the TEM 3.0 teacher evaluation model that will be used in the 2013- 14 school year. The surveys below cover two key areas of the model. They’re open through April 26.

» Executive cabinet members and administrative staff are continuing to build detailed budgets for all departments across the unified district. Once completed, the draft 2013-14 budget is scheduled for presentation to the Shelby County Commission on May 22.
